BACKGOUND INFORMATION ON POWER OF LOVE
Formation Year Power of Love (POL) is a charitable organization incorporated in Hong Kong in the year 1998 under the Companies Ordinance and is exempt from all taxes payable under the Inland Revenue Ordinance.
Mission POL strives to help improve the study environment for the school children in the rural areas of China and to provide opportunities for the children in these areas to receive basic education. Our mission is to enhance educational development for the rural population and hence raise the standard of living for our next generations
Scope of Service POL raises fund to rebuild and to upkeep the structure of dilapidated schools; to provide funding for equipping libraries and school facilities, and to award sponsorships to pupils of extremely low-income families.
Committee Members POL committee members are volunteers who spare our time and money to organize activities and fund raising projects in Hong Kong and to go to China to visit pupils and school sites.
Locations of Schools Rebuilt by POL POL has rebuilt 60 schools in the past 11 years. These schools are located in many provinces of China such as Inner Mongolia, Henan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Qinghai, Hunan, Hubei, Gansu, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Guangdong. We have also donated funds to equip 3 laboratories in a secondary school in Gansu and a mobile teaching room in the outskirts of Beijing. The locations of these 60 schools are indicated by our logo (the red heart) shown on the map of China.
On-site Visits & Cost Monitoring by POL POL committee members and volunteers make site visits to schools in the rural areas at our own expenses. We visit these schools before making our donations to rebuild the schools and inspect the schools after the completion of construction works. We sometimes visit these schools at construction intervals. Contracts are to be signed among POL, the local Education Department and a Monitoring Party to ensure accountability. For most projects, local Education Department or local government are requested to provide part of the funds required for the project in order to get their involvement and participation. Payments are made by installments to enhance the quality and to ensure the construction of schools completes on time. |
